Tangle Root Orchid

I can’t wait till September this year; now that we know where some of our orchids are I can’t wait to see them flower.

Our latest discovery with the assistance of Terry at Landcare is the Tangle Root Orchid, an almost pendent like orchid found commonly in rainforests hanging from a thread of twigs and outer branches. Orchid roots form a tangled like form thus the name Tangled Root Orchid and stems can be 1-35cm long. It’s scientific name is Plectorrhiza tridentata.

There are several of them located along the fire trail near the bridge over the creek at Booyong and they’ve also been discovered throughout the rainforest. We expect them to flower in Spring and will share photos with you!
