As winter is approaching we’ve been on the lookout for a fire pit. A country retreat is simply not complete without one.
Fortunately on a recent trip to Mackay, Bob our gatekeeper was gifted with a stainless coal filter from the mines. It’s perfect!
For safety reasons, we have decided to immerse it halfway into the ground and with the arrival of Betsy (our tractor) and the help of some friends we were able to do so efficiently.
We’ve also found it useful for burning all of the small branches that have dropped around the place and it holds the heat beautifully.
It’s fabulous really! Toasting marshmallows, a glass of port after dinner gazing up at the stars, sitting around and chatting with friends, what more could you ask for?
In August 2016 we created some seats around the firepit from some old wooden logs laying about, they look fantastic and mean we no longer have to be concerned with camp chairs!
