Lighthouse Beach
Port Macquarie
One of our favourite things to do on a sunny afternoon is visit Lighthouse Beach.
It’s a 25 minute drive from Booyong and located seven kilometres south of Port Macquarie. The beach stretches nine kilometres and is stunning. Lifeguards patrol the beach 5 days per week during school holidays October through to April although times vary.
If you’re feeling energetic you could walk up to Tacking Point Lighthouse which is a beautifully maintained historical land mark established in 1879 and has incredible views of the ocean. Once you get to the top, it’s a relaxing place to enjoy the coastal breezes and admire the beauty of the ocean. You may be lucky enough to see dolphins dancing the waves or whales which are often seen migrating during the whale season.
At the southern end of the beach you can even go on a camel ride with Port Macquarie Camel safaris.
We like to hit the beach early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the sun, crowds and be assured we get parking.
Whenever we head to Lighthouse Beach we love to have takeaway at Lighthouse Beach Takeaway. It’s just a short drive away at 42 Watonga St. It’s sometimes busy but there burgers and fish are well worth the wait. You can phone ahead your order on 02 6582 0117.
